What exactly is the Langley Urbanist Society?

We're a registered BC non-profit society dedicated to promoting sustainable urban development, walkable communities, and fiscally responsible planning in Langley. We serve as the official governing body for community initiatives like Strong Towns Langley, providing the legal and organizational structure that allows grassroots advocacy to thrive.

What's the relationship between the Society and Strong Towns Langley?

Strong Towns Langley is our primary public-facing initiative — it's where the events, campaigns, articles, and community outreach happen. The Langley Urbanist Society is the registered non-profit that provides governance, handles finances, and makes official decisions. Think of the Society as the organization, and Strong Towns Langley as the work we do. When you become a Society member, you get voting rights on how we operate and can help shape the direction of all our initiatives.

Do I need to be a member to participate in events?

Not at all! Our initiatives like Strong Towns Langley host public events — bike rides, walks, meetups — that anyone can join. Membership gives you voting rights in the Society itself, access to member-only meetings, and a formal voice in our direction. Many people participate in events first and become members when they're ready to get more involved.

Can I just donate instead?

Absolutely! We welcome donations of any amount through our initiatives. Donations support our work but don't include voting rights. If you want to support us financially without formal membership, that's wonderful. And of course, you can do both!

How does renewal work?

Memberships are annual. We'll send you a friendly reminder when it's time to renew. You can renew through the same Zeffy link — it takes about 30 seconds. Your membership stays active as long as your dues are current.
